By using a special synthetic tissue paper that holds a paint edge, Lane takes advantage of paper’s transparency to build a multi-layered image that has both depth and translucency. These paintings are also photo-based – an image is printed on traditional watercolor paper and then over-painted with watercolors. A piece of tissue paper is partially glued to the watercolor paper and then the image is printed on to the tissue paper. That image is then over-painted with watercolors. Over time, the glue releases the two types of paper and that further accentuates the depth of the image.
